Jean René has a Bachelor’s degree in composition from the Université de Montréal. He studied viola and orchestral conduction under professors that included Raffi Armenian, Michel Longtin, and Bruno Guiranna. Since 1991 he has been the solo violist with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal and has worked with many other ensembles. He has played and taught in Italy and has led a number of orchestras. He has collaborated with a number of artist since 1990, including André Duchesne, Pierre Cartier, Jean Derome, and René Lussier. He led the SuperMémé-SuperMusique ensemble for the Symphony of the Millennium.
